Absolutely, Yes. Please.
If you are a local brewery person. This place will impress you. If you are bar hopper. This place will impress you. If you love being alive. This place will impress you. The recently expanded brewery is down right impressive.
Located in North Austin, Celis offers a great mix of beers with the most popular being the Celis White. I have a tendency to lean towards the strongest beers when I go to breweries. (I don't drink beer often so when I do. . . it's all or nothing. I had the Violet Crown Belgian Quadrupel and it was rich and delicious. But the beer is not the only selling point.
The two indoor and two outdoor seating options are amazing. With a large outdoor stage, plenty of space and seating, and endless food options, Celis is a must visit spot for travelers looking to visit Austin and explore the culture. For those of you traveling in March, reminder it is crawfish season and Celis did offer an awesome cajun broil service on the Sunday we visited. The crawfish were large and made the entire brewery fill with the aroma of the most delicious cajun spices you can imagine.
Don't skip this gem.
I am always seeking the best BBQ in Texas when I visit. Terry Black's BBQ is by far the best I have had to date. This shack looking restaurant is much bigger on this inside then it appears from the outside and it is CROWDED. It is crowded for good reason. You arrive and herd into an assembly line of smiling servers who add whatever you may desire to your tray. My party ordered the ribs, brisket, and sausage to split at the table. The portions were perfect to feed four of us and the meat was tender, charred to perfection, and absolutely seasoned correctly. If you are by yourself, I recommend the baby back ribs without a doubt. They will blow your mind.
Many BBQ restaurants can dry out their meat pretty easily. Owner and local Texan, Terry Black, has perfected his smoking skills and truly showcases what Texas BBQ should look, taste, and smell like. On the side of the Austin location is a dedicated BBQ smokehouse. Just walking by this building will make your mouth water.
This is a must go to if you are in Austin, located across form the convention center, grab a group of friends, rangle a table if you can and have at it. Tell them Megan The Mess sent you!
I am a sucker for a few things. Good service and cajun boils are two of them! So here is the deal, this family run restaurant is one of many Cajun boil places I have visited in my life and let me tell you why this one specifically stood out.
The family who runs this small chain, or at least the few I met, were so down to earth, friendly, and remembered my name when I came in for a second round. They accommodated my football watching needs, let me charge my laptop, and made sure I was well taken care of. I was so happy with the friendliness that on my second visit, I brought my brothers to tag along. We were very happy.
The price! The price is very reasonable and something they offer that varies from other similar places is snow crab legs by the half pound; Making it affordable and well portioned for the single guys and gals out there. To be honest though, the full pound price makes it worth getting. In other places, the prices are insane. Here you can get snow crab legs and a pound of crawfish for less then $40.00! They offer beer and an intriguing happy hour as well!
Lastly, it is always a risk ordering crawfish when they are not in season. You can get dried up, fishy, dirty tasting , frozen crawfish and I have never had a good tasting experience at any boil restaurant in the off season. AMAZINGLY - and I do not know how they store or order - the "out-of-season" frozen crawfish at this place tasted GREAT! I was pleasantly surprised. I CAN NOT WAIT to go back when they have the fresh in-season crawfish. I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar that this place does them RIGHT! The sauce flavor is outstanding and I wish I knew their secret.
With four Texas locations and one being near one of my brothers home, you will be sure to find me here on every visit to Texas. This is a must when you visit Austin!
